Personal bests aplenty for Lancaster and Morecambe juniors

Fifteen young guns represented Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club in the second Mid Lancs fixture of the season at Witton Park in Blackburn.

The day started with the 100m where personal bests came from U17 Henry Connolly and U13 Freddie Pearson with U13 Tobias Swarbrick and U13 Libby Elliot also posting good times.

Next on the track came the 800m where U13 Jack Newton and U15 Kirsty Hamilton posted PBs.

The stand out performance came from U15 James Stanley whose time of 2:06.2 was a grade 1 performance.

In the 1,500m, U15 William Pyle finished second while Tobias Swarbrick ran strongly as he tackled the distance for the first time.

There were more PBs in the 200m from Henry Connolly, U15 Jack Garwood and U13 Eddie Gill.

Competition debutant Abby Macpherson, U15, ran well with Tobias Swarbrick again taking on a different discipline.

In the field there were new shot put bests for Eddie Gill and Candice Craven, the latter a new club record and grade 4 performance.

Libby Elliot jumped a new PB in the high jump and Abby Macpherson impressed in the long jump.

Georgie Brown-Swarbrick, Grace Wakeman, Amy Bennett and Kayleigh Canning also competed and set marks just short of their previous bests performance.

The juniors were joined by Dave Voyle, Jane Stanley, Peter Bennett and Conor Bennett who represented the club as officials.

The athletes are next in action in two weeks at the County Championships with their next Mid Lancs League Match on Saturday May 28 in Hyndburn.
