Strong showing for LRGS to start regatta season

Lancaster Royal Grammar School's rowers made a fine start to the season at the Merseyside Regatta.

The school was victorious in six of 12 events despite choppy conditions.

LRGS took a one-two in the J16 2x with William Burrow and Thomas Kerr taking the victory from Caidan Whittaker and Sam Gelder by a single length.

Cameron Stuart-Burgess and Oliver Tidswell topped the podium in the IM2 2X with Cameron Stuart-Burgess, Tom Nixon, Joe Unwin, Oliver Tidswell and cox Dan King-Cox winning the J18 4+ final.

A great race from the J16 quad of William Burrow, Caidan Whittaker, Sam Gelder and Lewis MacPherson saw them beat Merchant Taylors by half a meter.

The J16s showed their strength by also entering sweep crew with William Burrow, Lewis MacPherson, Ben Heseltine, Sam Gelder and cox Joe Gelder also winning.

The final winners were Jamie Morphet and Will Hornby-Phillips in the Nov 2x.

Lewis MacPherson and Ben Heseltine took second in the J17 2X despite racing up an age group.

The crew of Will Hornby-Phillips, Daniel Arey, Liam Targett, Jamie Morphet and cox Tim Bolton were also runners-up in the novice coxed quad, losing by one length to Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club.

There were also second spots for the J15 quad of Adam Burkhart, Sam McLoughlin, Ben Eaton, Peter Wild and cox Joe Gelder, J15 2X duo of Ben Eaton and Sam McLoughlin and Thomas Kerr in the J16 1X.

Elsewhere, Ben Eaton was elminated in the first round of the J15 1X.
