Mossley 4-1 Lancaster City
Mossley 4 Lancaster City 1 Unibond League Presidents Cup 1st Round
MOSSLEY gained revenge from their previous league defeat by City in August and secured their passage through to the next round with a workmanlike performance.
Blues manager Tony Hesketh made a number of changes to the side with the all important FA Trophy tie looming at Giant Axe against Chasetown tomorrow, Saturday.
He rested the league's leading goalscorer Jordan Connerton and gave the first start of the season to the recovering Mark Jackson. Recent signing Neil Beesley also returned in goal. Also on the sideline was Andrew Teague with Guy Heffernan replacing him in defence.
It could have been so much different if City had taken their early chances when Jackson hit the post with a header from a cross by Rothwell after nine minutes.
Mossley took the lead with five minutes of the first half remaining from one of many free kicks given away by the Blues. Steve Settle, the home side striker, finished off what he started after being fouled by Marshall on the left.
The home side doubled their lead on 47 minutes through winger Steve Moore, only for Roger Sharrock to reduce the deficit to one goal again two minutes later.
But two further goals followed for the home side by captain Graham Kay and Matt Kay on 62 and 74 minutes respectively to complete the scoreline.
Lancaster: Beesley, Henry, Marshall, Heffernan, Stringfellow, D Ward, Rushton (Jarvis 74), Rothwell, Jackson (Connerton 60), Farrell (Wilson 8), Sharrock
