JOSH Scott came back to haunt Morecambe once again as the Shrimps went down to bottom club Dagenham.
Scott, who scored a hat-trick when the Daggers destroyed the Shrimps in the play-offs two seasons ago, tormented Jim Bentley’s side again with a header 18 minutes from time to give his side a much needed three points.
Morecambe went a goal down on 12 minutes with an excellent strike from Daggers’ midfielder Medy Elito. The Shrimps’ defence cleared a Ben Reeves corner to the edge of the box and Elito latched on to the loose ball to curl a fine effort past Barry Roche’s left hand.
Dagenham then went close to a second six minutes later when Reeves moved on to another loose ball and drilled a shot inches wide of the left hand post with Roche well beaten.
After a poor start the Shrimps fired their way back into the game with another top quality goal from Kevin Ellison. on 26 minutes. Garry Hunter chipped the ball to the edge of the Dagenham box, Jordan Burrow headed down and Ellison curled a great right foot finish past John Bond from the edge of the area.
Both sides then struggled to keep possession and chances were rare, the best falling to the visitors on 42 minutes when Mark Arber flashed a shot wide from the left hand side of the box after Roche had failed to clear a Damien McCrory corner.
Morecambe went close late in the game when young debutant Jack Redshaw forced a save from John Bond but it was a rare highlight on a poor night.
