MORECAMBE suffered a fourth defeat in five games as they were once again undone by old rivals Accrington.
A Bryan Hughes wonder goal ensured that Accrington maintained their hold over their North West rivals.
The veteran midfielder produced a stunning right foot curler from the edge of the area 15 minutes from time to give Accrington their 10th win in 13 games over the Shrimps.
After a turgid opening Accrington took the lead on 33 minutes.
Craig Lindfield crossed from the right wing superbly with his weaker left foot and found Kevin Long. His close range header was superbly saved by Barry Roche but Jayden Stockley was on hand to slam the ball home from close range from six yards out.
Andy Proctor went close to adding a second on 42 minutes with a shot from 25 yards that flew just wide of the right hand post.
Morecambe’s best effort of the first period came in the eighth minute of the game when Jason Price fired inches over from Danny Carlton’s neat lay off.
The Shrimps hit with a leveller on 54 minutes. Will Haining delivered a cross from the right which was met by Danny Carlton, His first effort was well blocked by Ian Dunbavin but the ball fell neatly for Stewart Drummond to score from eight yards out.
Morecambe then enjoyed a period of dominance with Dunbavin saving well from Laurence Wilson and Lewis Alessandra before Hughes produced the all important moment of quality.
