Westmorland Cricket League: Westgate get better of Warton to keep up pressure at the top

Westgate got the better of Warton in the pick of the Westmorland Cricket League Division One clashes on Saturday.

Andy Hill’s side were four-wicket winners as they cemented third place in the table against their near rivals and kept up the pressure on the top two Arnside and Shireshead.

The visitors were restricted to 117-9 batting first with Zak Buchanan the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-32.

Garry Tattersall also took 3-27 and skipper Hill 2-27.

In reply, Westgate finished on 118-6, Dylan Conroy making 35, Craig Buchanan 29 and Alex Briggs an unbeaten 29.

Top of the table Arnside were 97-run winnners Burneside, posting 262-6 declared batting first as S Mackenzie made 102 not out before bowling out the opposition for 169.

There was a shock for second in the table Shireshead though who were dismissed for just 58 by Windermere with the Cumbrians cruising to an eight-wicket win.

Andy Powers’ 5-54 helped Heysham to a seven-wicket victory over Ambleside.

Powers’ heroics with the ball set up Heysham chasing down 114 to win, which the village side did for the loss of just three wickets.

Carnforth went down to a 48-run defeat against Milnthorpe, being dismissed for 126 after the South Lakes side had posted 174-5 batting first.

Trimpell’s Mark Baldwin made 76 as the hosts got the better of Kirkby Lonsdale in their Westmorland Cricket League Division Two clash on Saturday. 
The hosts posted 192-6 batting first with Kirkby Lonsdale dismissed for 118 as Trimpell won by 74 runs. 
Elsewhere in Division Two there were also wins for Bolton-le-Sands, Westgate A, Sedgwick and Shireshead A.
