Paul Woodward knows he won’t have to motivate his Vale of Lune side for their derby at Kendal on Saturday.
The head coach is confident local pride will make his players determined to get one over on their Cumbrian rivals in North One West.
He said: “We can’t win the league but Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale and ourselves want to finish above the others.
“So it’s pretty easy for me this week because I don’t need to motivate the local lads.
“They know how big it is for the club.”
Vale had a weekend off after Widnes appealed a decision to replay their game from earlier in the season with Woodward confident his side will be fit and firing at Shap Road this weekend.
He said: “We didn’t have the players in because a few of them are carrying knocks so it’s done them good just to have a weekend off.
“Kendal did have a game (a 48-17 win at Altrincham Kersal) so they could be carrying a few injuries but they do have the continuity of not having a week off.”
