City of Lancaster Triathlon athlete Beau Smith has been selected to represent Great Britain in the World University Triathlon Championships taking place next month.
The 20-year-old former Lancaster Royal Grammar School student, Beau is now studying for a degree in Sports Science with Physiology at the University of Leeds.
The selection follows his win at the 2013 British Universities Triathlon Championships, and strong performances in the British Triathlon Super Series and European Cup events last season.
The Championships are taking place on April 20 in Brasilia, Brazil, and will mark the first occasion that Beau will have raced outside Europe.
To help finance this and other international events this season, Beau is raising money through an internet site called Talent Backer; his profile is displayed on the website and backers can pledge donations during a 28 day period at the end of which if he hits his target figure he will get the money, but if he falls short he will get nothing.
There is a day left for him to achieve his £2300 target.
To view his profile go to www.talentbacker.com/talents/view/beau-smith he has just over a week left to achieve his target.
Beau is training hard ahead of the World Championships, and showed good form when competing last weekend in the British Universities Biathlon Championships held at Oxford University.
Having placed second last year he was very happy to come away with the win, having run close to his personal best time for the 1,500m and set a new personal best time for the 200m swim by around six seconds.
Also competing was COLT athlete Sarah Hodgson, 18, who took the Bronze medal in the ladies event.
