WESTGATE captain Andy Hill lost the toss and Silverdale skipper Johny Mason had no hesitation putting Westgate into bat in damp conditions.
Andy Hill (17) and Dave Lord (13) ran well between the stumps and Garry Tattersall (21) looked in imperious form as Westgate rattled along to 75-3 in the 19th over.
Creed and Puffett both also fell for double figures to the immaculate Paul Moffatt (6-42) as Johny Mason (2-17) also took two quick wickets to reduce Westgate, who all of a sudden found themselves in a bad position at 77-6.
However, wicket-keeper batsman Aaron Pearce (24) produced a mature innings under pressure and along with Dave Hughes and the tail got Westgate to a defendable total.
Moffatt continued his impressive run against Westgate with a great spell in the conditions, and he was backed up by some safe catches by the Silverdale fielders.
Despite having 50 overs to chase the target, the Silverdale innings also went along at a rate of knots reaching 97-4 in 22 overs, and seemingly in complete control.
The innings seemed to depend on Kieron Moffatt (51), who had a little luck, but hit some wonderful straight shots as he took the attack to the bowlers from ball one.
He lacked support however, except for extras (21) and a confident looking Mark Webster (13).
Steve Creed (3-35) took three crucial wickets including that of Webster, Sparks and J Mason, but still Silverdale were in a commanding position.
A change of ends for Danny Wilkinson (4-24) and the introduction of spinner Andy Hill (3-19) soon saw the game turn on its head.
Once Hill bowled Moffatt, Wilkinson ripped through the tail as six wickets fell for just 17 runs to see Westgate win by eight runs in a tremendous fight back in a game played in great spirit by both clubs.
