Shireshead’s skipper, Sutcliffe, won the toss and chose to bowl in a game already reduced to 35 overs a side.
Dodd (3-29) and Bray (1-33) opened the bowling and made a great start, removing J Sharman, F Smith and Moller (16) with only 24 on the board.
A Sharman played an extremely patient innings, his half century coming off the last ball of the innings. Moulsdale (4-33) put in a controlled spell of slow bowling and Fraser-Gray (1-20), playing his first senior game of the season, was sharp and economical.
Shireshead’s innings was, as the game proceeded, reduced to 29 overs.
With the score on 53 for 4 off 19 the game hung in the balance.
With Shireshead now needing 70 off 10, Dugdale (20) and Twiname (46) upped the rate, scoring 43 off the next six, but another flurry of wickets left them at 104 for 8.
P Dodd was the next to go and this left Clarkson and Moulsdale to play out the last seven deliveries, which resulted in six points each in a keenly contested match that was a credit to both teams and umpires.
