A SWIMMING sensation from Quernmore is bidding to make a splash in the GB Olympic team.
Fifteen-year-old Rachel Ritchie will be competing alongside other British swimming stars such as Rebecca Adlington and Liam Tancock in the British Gas Swimming Championships.
The event, which runs from March 3 to 10, also serves as the trials for the GB Olympic Team and Rachel, who swims for Carnforth Otters Swimming Club, has increased her training time in the pool in preparation.
With a gruelling training schedule that means nine sessions in the pool every week, Lancaster City Council offered Rachel the opportunity to train for free in Salt Ayre Sports Centre.
Rachel puts her success down to hard work and determination, fitting in training for the 50, 100 and 200 metres breast stroke with her school work at Ripley St. Thomas.
Rachel and her coach, Mark Smith, are looking forward to the British National Championships and are feeling confident about the competition.
