ON winning the toss, visiting skipper Naylor put the home team in to bat on a damp wicket after the overnight rain.

Galgate openers Cooper and Partis, looking for a quick start, soon found runs hard to come by with the slow outfield limiting the boundaries.

The partnership was broken in the 14th over when Norman (4-34) had Partis (15) caught behind with the score on 49. Cooper soon followed after being bowled by Norman.

T Speak and skipper Morgan looked to improve the rate but Speak fell to a superb one handed catch by G Singleton for an all-boundary 12 and when Morgan (14) was adjudged lbw two overs later Galgate were 77-4 at the half way stage.

Debutante S Cudworth (8) looked composed until being bowled by Hodgson (3-19). R Speak at the other end played his natural attacking game with two maximums in his 17 from 14 balls but went after top edging to Halhead.

Beales (13no) also cleared the ropes twice but ran out of partners with the last four batsmen failing to trouble the scorers.

Galgate finished 115 all out in the 33rd over. S Singleton (2-26), D Baldwin (0-24) and J Parkinson (1-2) the other bowlers used. With batting on the slow wicket, Galgate knew the target would not be as easy as it appeared but with 56 overs available, Milnthorpe could play a watchful innings and wait for any bad balls.

Tight early bowling, backed up by the fielders again, put the pressure on the visitors who were soon 16-3 after 7 overs with Morgan taking two smart catches at silly mid-off.

Cooper was replaced by R Speak (0-25) while brother Tom bowled his full 12 overs at the other end with excellent figures of 12-3-16-3.

Halhead and S Singleton somewhat steadied the ship with the aid of several dropped catches, until the latter was bowled just before drinks by Speak for a patient 14.

Halhead (11) fell soon after drinks to leave Milnthorpe 40-5.

Norman and Naylor (8) proceeded to frustrate the home team until the return of Cooper (4-18) accounted for Naylor, and the introduction of Scothern (2-13) effectively sealed the game, but with Norman still at the crease there was always a chance for the visitors.

Morgan and Beales both took a catch close in at the wicket and Cooper’s slower ball accounted for Norman (20) who top-edged to Partis with a running catch behind the wicket to seal victory for Galgate and their first 15 point win of the season.
