LANCASTER won the toss and bowled first.
Preston got off to a slow start due to tight bowling from B Simm and C Swarbrick who reduced Preston to 95-7 off 40 overs, only Lukman Vahaluwala (43) mounting any resistance.
But a few cameos late on, especially R Shah (36), took the Preston score up to a respectable 143-9 off 50 overs.
Another superb bowling spell from Lancaster’s B Simm, bowling unchanged for 25 overs taking 5-49.
The Lancaster innings got off to a bad start losing M Stevens with only six on the board.
Then pro D Hees and C Swarbrick took the score to 33 before both became victims of three quick lbw decisions, reducing Lancaster to 60-4 before a match winning partnership of 61 between Lee Sparks (33) showing immense control and patience, and Junior player Joe Atkinson making a superb 46 dispatching the Preston bowlers to all parts of the West Cliff ground.
Three more quick wickets left the game in the balance before D Gudgeon hit the winning runs for Lancaster, finishing on 145-8.
Preston’s Lukman Vahaluwala finished with 6-67 in a tight, close game.
