Lancaster Nomads were knocked out of the Lancashire Central Women’s League Cup by Leyland and Chorley at the weekend.

Leyland had the majority of possession in the first half and went into the break 2-0 to the good.

The second half was a more even affair with some determined spells of possession from both teams.

A strong defensive performance from Nomads’ Sonia Etherington, Amy Leck, Helen Stanley and man of the match Toni Fagan only allowed Leyland to score one more goal.

Nomads scored a late consolation goal from a trademark penalty corner strike from Hazel Irwin but were edged out as the game ended 3-1.

Nomads will look to gain revenge when the sides meet again in the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association Division One.

First they travel to Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern Ladies’ 3s on Saturday.
