Lancaster picked up an 18-run win over the Lancashire Colts at Lune Road on Sunday.

Having seen the entire Northern League Division One programme washed out on Saturday, the city side’s 15-point victory allowed them to gain ground on their rivals in an open league.

Ben Simm’s side didn’t have it all their own way however.

Batting first they looked in trouble after being bowled out for just 105 off 40.5 overs.

In the continued absence of Pakistani professional Jannisar Khan due to visa issues, Lancaster sub professional Rameez Ahmed top scored for the home side with 46 off 67 balls.

Iain Perrieman (19) and Simm (10) were the only other batsmen to make double figures.

In reply however the county side crumbled to 87 all out to hand Lancaster victory.

Simm put in a captain’s display to drag his side back into the game, taking five for 26.

Liam Moffatt (two for 22) Iain Perrieman (two for 18) and Matthew White (one for 12) also contributed to a key win for the hosts.

Simm said: “It was a very good win.

“It’s always difficult against them because you’re never sure who’s going to turn out.

“But we scrambled a score together on a difficult wicket and it’s always nice to get five wickets, I just need to do it more often now!”
