IN time honoured tradition, the hickory-shafted driver made its annual trip from the clubhouse wall to the first tee at this year’s Captains’ Drive In at Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club.

Dressed as golfers of the early 1900s, Club Captain David Robinson and Lady Captain Janet Homer, took up the challenge of hitting a gutty ball with the hickory driver.

They were cheered on by more than 100 members as they both hit drives down the first fairway.

There was a full field for the stableford competition which followed the drive in, and fantastic conditions made for some great scores.

Club Captain David Robinson said: “I am very pleased with the condition of the course coming out of its winter sleep and I am very optimistic about the season ahead”.

The overall winner was Stephen Hoare with a score of 41 points and the ladies winner with a score of 34 points was Kathy MacKenzie.
