Lancaster Hockey Club played host to Springfields Ladies at the weekend, and were beaten 6-2.

Lancaster got off to a bad start when they conceded an early and dubious goal from a short corner that was struck too high above the backboard giving Springfields the early advantage.

The goal created nerves in the defensive line and Springfields capitalised further.

Despite the 2-0 scoreline Lancaster did fight back, scoring on the break.

Julie Walker did all the hard work, she used her 3D skills to take on the goalkeeper and struck at goal, Rebecca Airey made sure the ball made it into the goal, volleying it into the netting.

Springfields scored further goals, most of which stemmed from the lack of experience Lancaster have had this season.

Captain Ali Standeven showed Springfields the team’s fighting spirit, smashing the ball from the top left of the D into the bottom corner of the goal.
