Garstang Ladies first XI are the champion of champions.

Taking part in the North West Champions Cup, they played a round robin tournament against Wigan and City of Manchester who both won their respective league cups.

In the first game, Wigan were trounced 7-0 and Garstang sealed the trophy by getting the better of City of Manchester 4-1.

In the first match against Wigan, Garstang started brightly and they opened the scoring after 12 minutes, with Josie Rice on target.

Christie Martin made a great break through from the wing along the goal-line to find Fran Summers on the far post for the second goal.

After the break, Di Roe scored her second goal to make it 3-0 and two minutes later a class pass by Rebecca Worthington to Rice in front of goal ended with a high shot in the net.

Summers then made it 5-0 from a penalty flick and in the final eight minutes, Christie Martin bagged two goals to make the final scoreline 7-0.

After a rest period, Wigan played City of Manchester and lost 4-0.

So it was a winner takes all encounter in the final match as Garstang played Manchester, who were the first to draw blood by opening the scoring.

But that was as good as it got for the Mancunians as Garstang came roaring back.

Good link-up play between Martin and Worthington made it 1-1 and two minutes later on 16 minutes another powerful run by Martin allowed Summers to make it 2-1.

Garstang brought on youngsters Ellie Moss and Holly Wilson in defence for their first team debuts.

Manchester were certainly no pushovers and on 21 minutes, Sarah Skelton produced a superb diving stick to keep the lead intact.

Seconds from half-time Roe produced a great shot over the goalkeeper’s head to make it 3-1. From the start of the second half, Garstang kept the pressure on Roe bagged her second goal for 4-1 to seal the victory.
