Dyane takes victory in difficult conditions

Strong force 4-5 winds and rough seas made finishing as much a challenge as worrying about placings as Dyane Silvester took overall first place in a three-race programme when Morecambe Sailing Club members took to the bay on Sunday.

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises was that when final points were added up that Phil Chandler in his Lugger, very much a traditional dinghy, took second place.

Final points are a combination of placings on the water and handicapping with the slower boats such as the Lugger having the lowest handicaps.

Third place went to two of the club’s junior sailors, April and Jamie Whiteley in the family’s Kestrel two hander. Dave Edwards in another Streaker was fourth with John Hodgson in a Solo following him home.

MSC’s dinghy captain and officer of the day, Keith Byers said: “The difficult conditions kept the safety boat, helmed by Dave Imeson, busy dealing with a series of capsizes and other incidents but everybody coped well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
