FOLLOWING last weekend’s semi-final victory, Carnforth came face to face with their Lancashire Bowl opponents in a league fixture.
Skipper Mathew Short and centre Joe Harrison linked up in the eighth minute to allow full-back John Edmondson to crash over the line.
Minutes later John Greenland and Greg Sykes joined forces to see skipper Matthew Short go through to give his side a 10-0 lead.
Jason Waterhouse made a superb 40 yard run through the middle before the Warriors came into the game and opened their account with a try.
Two minutes later and the dangerous Cozens scored his usual try against Carnforth, also converted.
Ten minutes later and Cozens again scored although the ball seemed to be spilled over the line, however conversion added for a 19–10 lead at the interval.
Carnforth started the second half well but Warriors’ flying winger went down the flank to score a fine try on 48 minutes.
Moments after the Park try Carnforth came back into the game, Short pouncing on a clearance to glide through under the posts, drop goal conversion added.
Again Warriors came back and their stand-off Jerry sprang through the defence to register a further try, again converted to make it 31–17.
Carnforth refused to give up the cause and a fine move down the left flank saw winger Phil Metcalfe away.
He looked home and dry before a tackle round the shirt collar brought him down, the referee awarding a penalty try for the high tackle, Short added the extras.
Just as Carnforth seemed to get back into the game, Warriors pulled away again and two quick tries gave them a 45–24 lead.
Phil Metcalfe got his reward with a try following excellent work from Graham Rich and with three minutes to go Harrison was able to cut back inside to score under the posts, one conversion added and a 36–45 deficit.
West Park had the last say though with their eighth try, again thanks to excellent work by the backs.
