Carnforth claimed an excellent 25-17 victory over Bury in North Lancs 2 on Saturday.

The hosts looked to be cruising with a 20-5 lead entering the final stages but had to survive a late scare to knock off the fifth in the table Greater Manchester side.

Carnforth started well but found themselves 5-0 down after a Bury winger crossed in the corner.

Undeterred Jack Edmondson reduced the arrears with a penalty goal before on 12 minutes converting his own excellent solo try for a 10-5 lead.

With both players briefly down to 14 Bury saw a score chalked off with a player deemed to have been in touch before in the run up to the interval Kevin Hardy scored a penalty for an eight-point half-time lead.

In a hard-fought clash it took until 15 minutes before time for the game’s next score, Mathew Short intercepting a pass with Bury in the ascendancy before sprinting away to score under the posts.

Hardy converted for a 20-5 lead with the game seemingly over as a contest.

Not so, as two quick Bury tries with less than 10 minutes go put the hosts on edge, but Carnforth hit back and saw one try ruled out for a forward pass before Short added his second try and sealed a superb victory.
