ON Saturday night at Loughborough two local sportswomen and former members of Lancaster Swimming and Water Polo Club represented Great Britain in a Women’s European Championship qualification group match.
Alex Rutlidge (aged 22) and Becky Kershaw (aged 20) played an important role in an impressive 26-1 victory over Israel.
Both Alex and Becky were in Great Britain’s starting seven and scored two goals each in a commanding performance in their opening group match.
Indeed the first goal of the game came from Becky after being set up by a pass from Alex.
It was a very one-sided game and demonstrated that the work the girls are putting in at the Manchester-based High Performance Centre is paying off.
