Boxing stars Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan are set to be ringside when Tyson Fury’s cousin takes to the ring for his second professional contest this Saturday.

Lancaster’s Dempsey Fury is looking to remain undefeated when he takes on Darren McKenna in a four-round clash at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan on the co-promotion between VIP and Hatton Promotions.

And the father and trainer of the 18-year-old super-middleweight prospect, real name Hughie, says his son would take on any of the division’s rising stars.

Hughie Fury Snr said: “We want to move him up to higher class as soon as we can.

“He’s only 18 but he had a lot of amateur fights so he’s quite seasoned for his age.

“We’re not going to make him run before he can walk but we want to move him along.

“He’d step in with (unbeaten European champion) Frank Buglioni or (Olympic Bronze medallist) Anthony Ogogo and when people see him fight they’ll see why we’re not bothered.”

McKenna (3-10-2) last fought on Saturday night when he drew at the famous York Hall in London with footballer turned boxer Leon McKenzie.

Fury, the younger brother of light middleweight professional Phill, made a winning debut with a four-round points victory over Mark Till back in September.

Hughie Snr said: “He’s had some good sparring and he’s a lot fitter than he was last time.

“I’m just looking for a good, solid performance.

“He’s a heavy hitter but we’re not going looking for knockouts, I just want him to go in there and do his job.

“We’ve got around 100 coming from all over to watch.”

Promoter Steve Wood said: “If Dempsey can fight anything like Tyson or Hughie Fury (another cousin campaigning at heavyweight) then there’ll be fireworks.”

Khan will be ringside in Wigan to watch younger brother Haroon’s fourth pro contest.

The former Commonwealth Games bronze medalist has looked impressive since turning pro this year and will want to continue his unbeaten run.
