A Morecambe strongman is ready to mix it with the best in the world.

Graham Hicks is in Sanya, China for his second World’s Strongest Man and is hoping to improve on his joint fourth-placed finish in his heat at last year’s event in Los Angeles.

The heats start this Saturday with the 27-year-old aiming to prove once again he belongs at the top of his sport.

He said: “I’m quite happy with the events and I’m am hoping to do better than last year.

“It’ll be a really tough group but I just want to show I can mix it with them and not look out of place.

“It would be great to make it into the top two and get into the final. I don’t how possible that is but I’m just looking to challenge.”

Hicks qualified after finishing fifth at British Giants Live at the Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday, August 3 where a couple of top Americans took on the best Britain has to offer.

The former Britain’s strongest man under 105kg, who trains at the Muscle Factory in Lancaster, said: “I told myself if I finished in the top five I’d be pretty happy and it went quite well.

“I won the loading event and came second in the log where I went up against one of the big Americans and it was like little and large!”

British Giants Live and the World’s Strongest Man will be broadcast on Channel 5 during the Christmas period.
