Great Wood do it for kicks

ON Thursday, June 18, Great Wood School, Morecambe hosted the Morecambe and Heysham District Girls' Football Tournament. It was a brilliant day with 12 schools and a total of 20 teams entering.

After a long group stage and four exciting quarter-finals the last four left in the competition were Great Wood, Trumacar, Morecambe Bay and Torrisholme.

Great Wood beat Torris-holme to set up a final with Trumacar, who beat Morecambe Bay. Great Wood are the defending champions and in a well contested final came out 3-0 winners to defend their title.

The Great Wood team, captained by Millie Corless, played seven matches in total throughout the day, scored a total of 36 goals and conceded none.

Special mention should be made to the fantastic sixth form boys from Morecambe High who spent the whole afternoon refereeing the matches. They were excellent.
