The Lancaster Royal Grammar School first XI were the joint winners of the Royal Grammar Schools Cricket Festival 2014, a week-long competition held at Newcastle Royal Grammar School.

It is the first time the school have won the event which saw six teams play each other in 100-over matches at the county ground of Jesmond Cricket Club and other league grounds around Northumberland.

The LRGS team, captained by Dan Chambers, won four matches out of four, before the final game against Royal Grammar School High Wycombe was washed out at lunch meaning the trophy was shared.

The school’s victories came against Colchester, Worcester, Guildford and the hosts Newcastle.

The team, coached by Ian Ledward and Ian Perrieman, was: Dan Chambers (capt), James Beet, Mark Bevan, Alex Briggs, Adam Derham, Callum East, Will Fraser-Gray, Adam Gardner, Sam Letcher, Harry Robb, Matt Rosbottom, Billy Swarbrick, Declan Tracey, Tom Williamson and scorer George Crowe.
