Slyne-with-Hest and Garstang played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their West Lancashire Premier Division derby on Tuesday night.
Luke Ogley and Tom Entwisle fired the hosts into a 2-0 half-time lead before Iain Swan’s side staged a late comeback, goals from Matty Poole and an Aaron Helliwell penalty seeing them take a point.
An unmarked Ogley gave Slyne the lead after just two minutes and despite Garstang showing promise going forward it was two just before the half hour when a misguided punch from visiting ‘keeper Jim Brindle was punished by former Lancaster City man Entwisle who finished exquisitely before the stopper could regain his position.
Swan’s side were much improved after the break however with Poole and Leon Gierke both going close and the Riversiders were right back in the game on 71 minutes, Matthew Bell’s corner being headed home by Poole.
Garstang pressed for a leveller and having had one penalty claim waved away were handed a golden opportunity when James Galley was adjudged to have brought down Helliwell in the area.
The midfielder picked himself up and made no mistake from the spot to level things up.
Ogley came close to a late winner for the home side but it was a case of honours even in a great advert for the West Lancashire Premier Division.
