Morecambe will travel to Premier League side Sunderland in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
Jim Bentley’s side dumped Championship side Blackpool out of the competition 2-1 on Sunday and have now been rewarded with a trip to Martin O’Neill’s Black Cats.
The tie will be played in the week commencing Monday, August 27.
Sunday’s win at Bloomfield Road was a memorable day for the Shrimps and a victory Bentley says should give his side a huge boost ahead of the League 2 opener at Exeter on Saturday.
He said: “Although I am obviously delighted with the win on Sunday it was the performance that pleased me more than anything.
“We came up against a very strong Blackpool side and they put us under pressure.
“But we showed great organisation and commitment across the field and kept a shape which we have been working hard on in training.
“We kept things tight and hit them on the break a few times which is something we had worked on a lot in training.
“The task is now to make sure we carry that success over from Sunday into the Exeter game.
“It will be a very tough game for us because they will be a side eager to get back into League 1. But we certainly shouldn’t be afraid of them as Sunday showed.”
