Morecambe boss Jim Bentley had no complaints after watching his side beaten by Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

Goals in each half from Shay McCartan condemned the Shrimps to a fifth consecutive defeat with Aaron Wildig’s strike little more than a consolation.

Though his players battled back towards the end and came close to an equaliser, Bentley admitted his side got what they deserved.

“I think Accrington looked like the team in form and we looked like a team struggling for a result,” he said.

“They started better than we did, created better opportunities and scored from a great free-kick.

“Second half, we’ve had a go but we’ve been done by a defensive error from Alex Whitmore.

“Aaron Wildig’s goal gave us a lift but we didn’t deserve anything from the game because we didn’t play well enough.

“We’re a better side than we’re showing but, first half, they dominated and won more battles.

“I’m very disappointed; sometimes in life you can have setbacks and while we were great in February, March has been a shocking month.

“We have to roll our sleeves up because Saturday when we play Mansfield Town is another game.”
