Lancaster City head coach Darren Peacock says he must concentrate on players who are proud to play for the club after the departure of two key figures.
Player of the year Danny Gregson and striker Darren Green have joined Evo-Stik First Division North rivals Northwich Victoria despite the Dolly Blues’ best efforts to keep them at Giant Axe.
Peacock said: “That’s football.
“We’ve got to concentrate on the players we’ve got.
“The players who want to play for Lancaster City and are proud to play for the club.”
The former Newcastle and Blackburn defender admitted he was still learning the ins and outs of non-league transfer deals having only taken the Giant Axe hot seat at the end of last season.
He said: “I’m getting plenty of advice about what’s normal, if there is a normal.
“We’ve had players say they are going to come down for pre-season and then we’ve heard they’ve signed for other clubs.”
The Dolly Blues return for pre-season on Thursday night with Peacock eager to get going.
He said: “I’m looking forward to it.
“We’ve got a few of the lads still away and a few new faces so we’ll see what we’ve got.
“I’m the same as any footballer, Saturdays just don’t seem the same.
“Hopefully the lads will come back fit but that’s what pre-season is about, getting them ready.”
