Phil Brown is the new Lancaster City manager.

The former Dolly Blues assistant boss replaces Darren Peacock who left the club by mutual consent last week.

Brown, the head of football at Myerscough College and a Preston North End academy coach, previously acted as Tony Hesketh’s number two at Giant Axe.

Hesketh is understood to have been initially offered a third spell with City before turning down the role, paving the way for Brown to take over.

Brown finished last season as Stockport County’s interim manager in the National League North having originally been Alan Lord’s assistant at Edgeley Park.

During his previous spell with City several Myerscough players came through the club before turning professional, including Morecambe’s Alex Kenyon and Joe Bunney, now with Rochdale.

His first game in charge is set to be the FA Trophy replay at Northwich Victoria on Wednesday night.
