Lancaster City ensured a safe passage through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at Padiham on Saturday.

The Dolly Blues will head to Droylsden in the next round on September 26 after second-half goals from Joe Whittington and Ryan Winder settled the game at The Arbories.

After a first half short of opportunities City got their noses in front 20 minutes from time against a side one level below them in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Substitute Whittington’s deflected shot found a way past Sean Davis in the Storks goal as Darren Peacock’s side took a lead they would never relinquish.

Winder made sure of the result from the spot five minutes from time before Mike Hale was on hand to keep out shots from Josh Emmott and Kieron Pickup as Peacock and Trevor Sinclair saw their side pick up a welcome clean sheet.
