Lancaster City boss Darren Peacock wants to bring in three or four more fresh faces before the start of the new season.
The Dolly Blues host Evo-Stik Premier Division side Workington at Giant Axe in their final pre-season friendly this Saturday, August 9, with the big Evo-Stik First Division North kick-off at home to Farsley seven days later.
Peacock is pleased with what he’s seen from his squad, their latest outing a 3-3 draw against Skelmersdale on August 2, but knows he is a little light on numbers.
The City head coach said: “There could be three or four fresh faces.
“We’re looking all the time and we’ve got lads coming down who’ve been released by professional clubs.
“But you need more than just one or two sessions to look at them.
“I’ve been pleased with the squad overall.
“They’re working hard and are hungry but new players would push those who are first choice on that little bit more.”
One player from a professional club who has impressed is Lancaster-born former Bolton Wanderers youngster Sam Bailey.
The 19-year-old midfielder or full back caught the eye as a substitute in the draw with Skelmersdale and is in talks to join City having also played a couple of games for Conference North side Chorley during pre-season.
Peacock said: “We’re talking to Sam at the moment because he has had the chance to go to other clubs.
“He’s only 19 but he did really impress when he came on at right back against Skelmersdale.
“He wants to play regular football and is hungry. He also’s a local lad who wants to play for his local club which is a real bonus.”
