Lancaster City head coach Darren Peacock has revealed he beat off interest from elsewhere to secure the services of top scorer Tom Kilifin for next season.

Lancaster City head coach Darren Peacock has revealed he beat off interest from elsewhere to secure the services of top scorer Tom Kilifin for next season.

The striker scored 17 goals in the 2013/2014 season as the Dolly Blues missed out on the Evo-Stik First Division North play-offs on goal difference.

He put pen to paper at Giant Axe on Friday afternoon with Peacock delighted to get his man.

He said: “There was a lot of interest in him last season and throughout the summer.

“From my point of view I just want to keep the squad together and he was excited about carrying on from last season.

“He said it was the first time in a while that he had really enjoyed his football.

“It shows this club can attract better players and keep hold of them.

“We’re really pleased Killer has decided to stay with us.”

The head coach is hoping Kilifin will be the first of many to sign up for next season as Peacock looks to build on an impressive first season in charge.

He said: “At the moment Mike Hale has verbally agreed to stay and there’s just a few minor bits to sort out with Garry Hunter.

“I’ve invited the rest of the squad back too and it’s looking like they’re going to be staying with us.”

City will also have some new faces down for pre-season as the head coach has been inundated with recommendations.

Peacock said: “We’ve got some younger lads coming down for pre-season and we’re going to have a look at them.

“They’ve all got really good credentials.”
