IN the week after declaring that Lancaster City were title contenders, Tony Hesketh has seen his side pick up two excellent victories to make it five wins in a row in all competitions.

The Dolly Blues laid down a marker to the rest of the Evo-Stik First Division North as they brushed aside then leaders Skelmersdale United 3-1 at the Giant Axe on Saturday and then upset Blue Square Bet Premier side Southport in the Lancashire FA Trophy with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night.

Hesketh said: “We’ve had two very good wins this week.”

“I thought we made Skem look ordinary. They are still a good side and that’s to our credit.

“We are showing signs of putting together a consistent run of form. Winning is becoming a habit and there’s lots of belief in the squad.

“We showed confidence in abundance against Skelmersdale and carried it on against Southport.”
