LANCASTER City are right where they want to be in the build up to the new season, according to assistant manager Phil Brown.

Brown said he was delighted with the performances, which included a 3-1 win over a strong Blackpool XI on Monday night, and the fitness of the young City squad as they approach the opening game of the new Evo-Stik League First Division North season away to Farsley Celtic on August 13.

Speaking on Wednesday, Brown said: “I would say we’re extremely pleased with pre-season.

“We are right where we want to be with about a week and a half to go until the start of the season.

“I think we’ve got the blend of opposition right. We haven’t played too many top teams where we’ve been deprived of the ball and we’re doing well in terms of fitness.

“Pre-season has changed since my day so you don’t have players coming back out of shape anymore.

“The attitude has been good as well. We’ve not had many cry- offs due to work and other commitments so people are taking it seriously.”
