ACTING Lancaster City chairman Mick Hoyle believes reaching the President’s Cup final shows the future is bright for the club.

City defeated league leaders Chester, who played the majority of the game with ten men, 2-1 after extra time on Tuesday evening to set up a final against either Belper Town or Newcastle Town from the Evo-Stik First Division South.

Hoyle said: “After the turmoil we have been through in the last two months, with having to sell our best two players to make sure the club finished in the black, on behalf of the club, I want to congratulate Tony (Hesketh), Phil (Brown), their staff and the players on the achievement of getting to a cup final.

“It shows that there are brighter times ahead. It’s given everybody a massive lift.”
