LANCASTER City boss Tony Hesketh believes his side are real title contenders this season.

The Dolly Blues have won five out of their last six games in all competitions and welcome Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Skelmersdale United to the Giant Axe on Saturday.

City’s latest victory came on Tuesday night with a 6-2 hammering of financially-troubled Bamber Bridge at Irongate.

Hesketh said: “We started brightly and had been working on our finishing which paid dividends.

“We had two or three games where we weren’t creating chances and that concerned me.

“It was brilliant to take six off them and they were all well-executed goals and we looked menacing again.

“I told the players before the Mossley game that we could still win this league but needed to go on a run and we’ve managed to win four or five games.

“The game on Saturday is a big one. It’s a good time to play them and we have a good home record against them.”
