THE future is bright for Lancaster City following their President’s Cup triumph, according to assistant manager Phil Brown.
City defeated defending champions Belper Town 3-1 to lift the trophy on Tuesday evening, their first silverware since the League Challenge Cup win in 2001.
Dave Swarbrick’s hat-trick meant it was the second time they had lifted the President’s Cup, having defeated Tuesday night’s hosts Witton Albion in the final in 1995.
Brown said: “We are very proud. Myself and Tony (Hesketh, Lancaster City manager) and everyone at the club are really chuffed and really pleased to have secured some silverware for this season.
“They are a young bunch but they grew up very quickly last night and I thought we were worthy winners. Our gameplan worked a treat and we hit them on the counter attack and the scoreline didn’t flatter us.”
