LANCASTER City’s pre-season campaign went from strength to strength with two victories this week.
City lost their opening pre-season game 1-0 to Blue Square Bet Premier side Barrow last week but bounced back on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Bishop Auckland at the Giant Axe.
A brace from Lee Dodgson and a goal from Zach Clark, all in the first quarter of the game, effectively wrapped up the result for the Dolly Blues.
The visitors hit back with a penalty half-way through the second period, Dan Hawkins sending City ’keeper Martin Fearon the wrong way after Adam Strong was fouled in the box. City got the perfect start as they looked to carry on from their good showing in defeat to Barrow, Dodgson converting a penalty with just two minutes gone to set the home side on their way.
The winger doubled his, and City’s, account with 20 minutes on the clock, capitalising on some hesitancy in the Bishop Auckland defence to chip the ball over the ’keeper and into the net.
Clark added the third five minutes later as City looked as though they could run riot.
However the visitors came back into the game, pulling a goal back in the second half to give the score a respectable air.
On Tuesday night City picked up a comfortable 5-2 victory at West Lancashire League side Lostock St Gerards.
A Dolly Blues side made up from a mixture of reserve and first team faces raced into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Joe Bunny, Billy McKenna, Alex Meaney and Sam Wilson.
The home side pulled two goals back in the second half before Alex Johnson added a fifth for City.
City continue their pre-season campaign with a visit to North West Counties Premier League side Squires Gate tonight, Thursday, July 21, before they host a Bolton Wanderers XI at the Giant Axe on Saturday.
