Morecambe Ladies are three victories away from being crowned North West Women’s Premier Division champions.

The Shrimpettes set up a final week assault on the title after two convincing wins in their double header against Northwich Vixens at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Sunday.

The Ladies won the opener 6-1 before a 7-0 triumph saw them stay three points clear of Crewe Alexandra at the top of the table.

Nick Barrett’s side now travel to Preston North End on Wednesday night before a double header against Burnley on Sunday knowing three good performances will see them crowned champions.

In the opener on Sunday, Megan Doherty continued her remarkable goal scoring form with another hat-trick with Millie Brown scoring twice and Hannah Williamson scoring the other in the 6-1 triumph.

Doherty then scored four more in game two with Nicola Relph scoring twice and Laura Callis getting the other as the Shrimps fired in seven without reply.

The games had been set up by the league to make up for lost time after a string of cancellations with the matches reduced to 30 minutes each half.

It didn’t pose any problems for the Shrimps however as Barrett shuffled the pack with success to set up a huge seven days in the history of Morecambe Ladies.
