Megan Doherty scored all five goals as Morecambe Ladies won through to the North West Regional League Cup final with a 5-2 win over Blackburn Community at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Sunday.
The East Lancashire side are undefeated in Division One North and have scored more than 100 goals this season but were no match for the Shrimps.
Doherty headed home her first just after the quarter hour before some sloppy play at the back allowed Rovers to level things up at 1-1.
The Shrimpettes were back ahead shortly before the break, Doherty weaving through a host of defenders before being brought down in the area and picking herself up to hammer home the penalty.
The game was then over as a contest after three crazy minutes early in the second half.
Doherty first headed home Whittingham’s corner from the left before the same pair linked up and the striker hit a post.
She made no mistake in the next attack however lifting the ball over ‘keeper Dixon when in one-on-one and pretty much from the kick-off Whittingham released Doherty again who fired home for 5-1.
Blackburn pulled a goal back 15 minutes from time but there was no alarm for the hosts who held on for victory.
The ladies will play Crewe Alexandra in the final on Sunday, May 4, at a venue to be decided.
In league action, the top of the table ladies bounced back from defeat at Bolton with a 6-0 thumping of Blackpool at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Wednesday night.
Becky Whittingham scored a hat-trick, Hanah Paling bagged a brace and Megan Doherty got her obligatory goal with Nick Barrett’s side now four points clear in the North West Women’s Premier Division with five games to play.
