Morecambe Ladies’ title fate is in their own hands after another thumping win on Sunday.

The Shrimps girls, top of the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division, enjoyed an emphatic 8-0 win over mid-table City of Manchester at Lancaster & Morecambe College.

The result looked all the rosier with nearest rivals Blackpool Ladies FC losing to Tranmere meaning The Shrimps are now favourites to secure back-to-back promotions.

In the first meeting between the two sides on Sunday, Megan Doherty scored four goals in a fantastic 20 minute spell to put the home side well in command with Becky Whittingham adding a fifth before half-time.

The Ladies added three more unanswered strikes in the second half, Lauras Callis and Ivinson getting on the scoresheet and Doherty adding a fifth to take her tally to an amazing 55 goals in 20 games.

Morecambe have a game in hand on challengers Blackpool at the top and next Sunday host Burnley at Lancaster & Morecambe College at 2pm.
