Megan Doherty scored all five goals as Morecambe Ladies brushed aside Preston North End at Lancaster & Morecambe College on Sunday.

The result means the Shrimps girls remain unbeaten and lie in third place in the North West Womens Regional League Division One North with seven wins and two draws from their nine games.

The match provided a break from their history-making FA Cup run and with snow falling the ladies dominated from the off.

They took the lead on 20 minutes and Doherty had wrapped up her hat-trick by the break.

Confidence from their second round FA Cup win over Liverpool Feds the week before carried on in to this contest against the league’s bottom side and two poor goal kicks allowed Doherty to pick up possession and round the goalkeeper for goals four and five in the second half.

It could have been even more had the home side not wasted some good chances late in the game, but it wasn’t to matter as they were always too good for their near rivals.

The ladies are at home again this Sunday in the league, hosting Wigan at Lancaster & Morecambe College at 2pm.
