Morecambe boss Jim Bentley admitted his was “gutted” to see his side lose out at the death against Hartlepool.

Jack Sampson levelled things up at 1-1 in the 87th minute at the Globe Arena only for Jonathan Franks to steal all three points for the visitors in the third minute of stoppage time.

Bentley said: “I’m absolutely gutted but that’s football for you.

“After Boxing Day (the victory over Fleetwood) we were on a high but we’ve come back down to earth with a bump.

“We played okay in spells, created one or two chances, hit the bar and the post but also showed some ill discipline and looked lacklustre in certain areas.

“We were just missing something. We came in at half-time 1-0 down and it’s always disappointing to concede from a set play because everyone’s assigned to do a job and that’s not acceptable.

“We came out of the traps better in the second half and I can’t knock the lads because they gave it their all but one or two looked a little bit jaded and running on empty.

“But we got the late goal ourselves and it gave everyone a lift and from there you certainly shouldn’t be losing the game.

“It was just a bizarre last six or seven minutes and our decision making was poor.”
