MORECAMBE boss Sammy McIlroy said his side’s third successive draw on Tuesday night was “soul destroying.”

The Shrimps looked set for victory after Andy Holdsworth, in only his third appearance, scored his first goal for Morecambe with a fine effort on 51 minutes.

The ball broke to Holdsworth on the right hand side and he cut in on to his left foot to produce the perfect finish past Jamie Young.

From there Andy Parrish went close with a 25–yarder and Kevan Hurst tested Young as the Shrimps dominated.

But against the run of play they were shocked by a Shots equaliser 13 minutes from time. Jermaine McGlashan crossed from the right and Shots’ substitute Alex Rodman produced a fine finish from an acute angle past Roche.

Both sides came close to a winner with Phil Jevons seeing a close–range volley superbly saved by Jamie Young and the rebound just evading Paul Mullin.

At the other end McGlashan fired wide for the visitors on the counter attack when he should have squared the ball to the unmarked Wade Small.

Morecambe started the game brightly with Aldershot’s Anthony Charles forced to make two excellent early clearances before visiting keeper Young got down well at his near post to collect a dangerous Kevan Hurst cross.

The Shots then came into the game with Tim Sills shooting over on the turn from the edge of the area and Peter Vincenti missing a golden opportunity when he was left free in the box but shot wide of the left hand post when he should have at least tested Barry Roche.

Phil Jevons then headed wide at the near post from another Hurst cross before the Shots threatened again with former Shrimps’ midfielder Manny Panther coming close with a superbly struck half volley from 30 yards.

Jevons kicked off a much more entertaining second half by forcing Young into a neat save low to his right.

The Shrimps went on to dominate the possession but once again had to settle for another home game without a maximum return.
