IN the Black Dragon Senior Challenge Cup fourth round one of the best games of the day was between favourites Highgrove and Bentham, who had beaten them earlier in a league match.
Bentham took a 1-0 lead slightly against the run of play when a fierce James Earnshaw shot was spilled by the ’keeper, Thomas Burns was on hand to tap the ball into the net from close range.
This only made Highgrove raise their game even more but they could not get past the Bentham ’keeper who, without doubt, was man of the match.
He made at least eight top saves to deny the Highgrove sharp shooters.
Bentham had the misfortune of having a player sent off for two yellow cards.
This changed the game in favour of Highgrove when they levelled, Lee Braid at last beating the keeper.
This sent the tie into extra time. As the 10 men of Bentham started to run out of steam, Highgrove took control with two further goals scored by Jonathon Pedder and Jay Balogun.
In the semi-final Highgrove will be at home to the winners of the Slyne-with-Hest and Arnside tie.
