Garstang FC are celebrating after securing promotion back to the West Lancashire Premier Division at the first attempt.
Iain Swan’s side defeated Wyre Villa 3-2 on Saturday to bounce back with two games to spare.
It was a dramatic afternoon at The Riverside that began with Matthew Poole missing a penalty after just 30 seconds.
But the former Morecambe and Lancaster City man was to score a brace, his first coming a minute before the break as he lobbed the on-rushing goalkeeper to give his side the lead.
Wyre were level before the break however, Conor Crossley seeing red as the referee awarded a penalty which Jim Brindle saved but the ball fell for Danson to fire in from close range.
Poole put Garstang back in front on 62 minutes but again they surrendered the lead, Chris Anderson inadvertently diverting the ball into his own net a minute later.
It was left to Leon Gierke to start the party in the 71st minute.
He chased another long punt up field that keeper Wilkinson completely missed gifting the striker a chance which he didn’t pass up, sliding the ball into the empty net from an acute angle.
Garstang did have another scare before the final whistle when substitute Winterbottom was left with the goal at his mercy but he sliced his shot wide leaving Swan and his side to reflect on a job well done.
On Bank Holiday Monday a much-changed side beat Furness Rovers 2-1 at the Riverside thanks to goals from Poole and Gierke.
