In the Eric Wilson Senior Challenge Cup second round the tie between Trimpell and Bare Rangers and Freehold FC finally took place at the fourth time of asking, with Trimpell winning in extra time.

Trimpell, the Premier Division side, were clear favourites to win but Freehold of Division One matched them in every department and after a hard fought 90 minutes the score was level at 2-2.

Ian Palwanker and Sean Morgan scored for Freehold while Johnny Durnan and Sam McKee were on the scoresheet for Trimpell.

This brought extra time and the first half was as good as the first 90 but once Durnan had scored his second Freehold had to chase the game and were caught on the counter attack with Durnan completing his hat-trick.

Curtis Graham and Aidan Dunphy also added to the scoreline to send Trimpell through.

In the third round to be played this Saturday Trimpell will be at home to Carnforth Rangers.

In the Sam Price Memorial Cup seconnd round Caton United won 4-2 at home to Bentham.

Inside the opening two minutes Bentham took the lead – the ball was swung into the heart of Caton’s defence and hit centre half Alex Thwaite on the back of the head and trickled into the net.

After a number of errors by both sides Caton equalised after four minutes when left back Dave Wood lofted a 30 yard pass over the Bentham defence for Guy Spence.

He outpaced his marker and as the keeper spread himself Spence coolly chipped the ball over him and into the net.

Despite both sides continually making errors Caton took the lead after just 10 minutes play and it was Spence again who collected a perfect pass from right back Christian Sawacki and from the edge of the penalty area his shot flew into the net like a rocket.

Caton posed a lot of danger going down their left with Mambwe Chilfura causing Bentham problems an in the 25th minute his pass found Joe Bouskill unmarked who just beat the offside trap to score from inside the penalty area.

Caton took a 4-1 lead when from a corner the ball fell to an unmarked Joe Bouskill who picked his spot to score with ease.

Bentham kept trying to break down the defence and had some near misses before they pulled one goal back when Ian Thexton scored a good goal leaving Marshall stranded.

In the semi-final Caton will be away to Highgrove.
