IN the Premier Division of the Baines Bagguely North Lancashire and District League, Caton United fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Cartmel.
The game did not start very well for Caton as they lost a player after just eight minutes, dismissed by the referee for kicking an opponent.
Despite being reduced to 10 players, Caton, with the wind and rain at their backs, were much the better side but despite dominating for long periods, they only led by a single goal, scored by Steven Shallis.
Within two minutes of the restart Cartmel had equalised with a Joel Drinkall goal.
Within another five minutes it looked as though the floodgates had opened when Matthew Dodswell put Cartmel into a 2-1 lead.
With just 15 minutes remaining Caton had an excellent chance to equalise when substitute Darren Greene was put clear, but his wayward shot flew wide when he would normally have expected to score.
Caton did get another chance to equalise with 10 minutes left and this time 16-year-old Joe Airey did score.
Cartmel regained the lead again when Matthew Burrows scored soon after.
With just two minutes remaining, Cartmel got the lucky break when John Longhorn was adjudged to have tripped Dodswell just inside the area, Mike Robinson coolly dispatching the penalty to make it 4-2.
